MASTERWORK WEAPONS (updating page)

How to get a Masterwork Weapon?

Legendary weapons can drop as Masterworks for characters above 250 Power. (You can not get Exotic Masterworks or Masterwork Gear, Bungie may be adding Masterwork Gear at a later time)

All legendary weapons have a chance to be a Masterwork Weapon. Masterwork Weapons can drop from many sources such as Planetary and Tower NPC’s (ranking up using tokens), Public Event Chests, Milestones, Trials of the Nine, and Leviathan Raids. However, Raids and Trials of the Nine has a higher chance to drop Masterwork Weapons.

Upgrade Legendary Weapon into a Masterwork Weapon:

You can upgrade any Legendary Weapon you have to a Masterwork Weapon by using 10 Masterwork Cores and 25 Legendary Shards.

How to get Masterwork Cores:

To get Masterworks Cores you must dismantle Masterwork Weapons. Dismantling Masterworks Weapons will give you a random amount between 1-3 cores per Masterwork Weapon dismantled.

Reroll/Rework Masterwork Weapons:

You can reroll/rework Masterwork Weapons by using 3 Masterwork Cores and 25 Legendary Shards. (Some rolls available are handling, magazine, reload, stability, impact, and range.)

Here is the current list of Stat Bonuses that can roll per weapon type:

Types of Masterwork Weapons:

There are 2 different categories for Masterwork Weapons: Vanguard and Crucible

Vanguard Masterwork- Upgrades this weapon to a Masterwork. It will generate Orbs on multikills and gain a random bonus stat. The weapon will also gain a tracker that displays the number of enemies defeated by using it.

Crucible Masterwork- Upgrades this weapon to a Masterwork. It will generate Orbs on multikills and gain a random bonus stat. The weapon will also gain a tracker that displays the number of Crucible opponents defeated by using it.

More Info from Bungie blog post

  • Legendary weapons can now drop as Masterworks for characters above Power level 250.
  • Masterworks provide bonus weapon stats and generate Orbs on multikills.
  • Legendary Weapons will drop as or be upgraded to become Masterworks versions
    • Masterworks will have a few advantages over the baseline Legendary weapon:
      • Track and display the number of kills with that weapon (with choice between total count or Crucible-only count)
      • Generate orbs for you and your allies on multi-kills
      • Add weapon stat bonuses that are selected randomly from a small pool and are re-rollable
    • Masterworks drop from any source of Legendary weapons for characters above 250 Power
      • Unwanted Masterworks can be dismantled into materials that can upgrade an existing Legendary Weapon into a Masterwork
      • Raid and Trials of the Nine Weapons will have a very high chance to be Masterworks
    • We have future plans to extend Masterworks to other gear and expose your kill counts in more places (e.g. Crucible kill screen)

Player Feedback: Masterworks and Modifications by dmg04

Since the release of Destiny 2 Update 1.1.1.1, we’ve been monitoring player feedback concerning the Masterworks. We’d like to give you a list of items that’s on our list to address. We don’t have a specific date for when these changes would take place, but we’d like to give insight as to what teams at Bungie are aiming to accomplish:

Player acquisition:

• We’re implementing a new mechanism that we can use to limit long dry spells in Masterwork drops due to bad RNG.

• We will also be looking at adding some guaranteed sources of Masterworks, but we are working on a broader plan to improve prestige activity rewards and it might wait until then.

• We’re watching overall drop rates and usage over the holiday and will adjust drop rates and material costs as needed.

Masterwork Inventory Management

• We’re planning a fix for Masterwork Cores not going to your postmaster if you’re full on Consumables.

• To help prevent accidental loss of Masterwork Cores, we’re extending the dismantle timer to give players a larger window to stop the process.

Stat Bonuses

• Right now, the stat bonuses are small tweaks intended for players who want to optimize very deeply. We’re watching feedback and are excited to adjust or add more stat bonuses in the future. Once we have more information, we’ll share our plans with you.

Additionally, the in-game UI currently doesn’t have a good way to show all of the possible stat rolls. Here is the current list of Stat Bonuses that can roll per weapon type:

Auto Rifle

+5 Range
+10 Magazine
+10 Reload
+10 Handling

Sword

+5 Impact

Masterwork Armor

• We have begun plans to add Masterworks to Armor as well.

• The Armor bonuses will be more modest than the Orb generation on Weapons (in part because you have five equipped at once), but at minimum we want to provide a much requested mechanism to change the Armor stat type.

Weapon and Armor Mods

• We don’t have a firm ETA yet, but feedback on Armor and Weapon Mods has been heard!

• At minimum, we are looking to ease inventory pressure (ex: collapsing per-slot or per-class Mods)

• We’re also seeking to make Mods a more meaningful part of your loadout decisions.

If you have feedback for Masterworks or Mods, feel free to sound off! Post a thread in the #Destiny2 or #Feedback forums to share your thoughts. We’ll have more in the coming year to talk about. Stay tuned.

Cheers,

-dmg04
