Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost – Seasonal Event (Oct 06 – Nov 03)

Ends: Tuesday, Nov 03 @ 9 AM PDT

More Details: Event Website | Help Guide

Eva Levante, or as you all affectionately call her “Space Grandma,” has returned to the Tower to lead Guardians in a celebration of those we’ve lost. We miss you, Cayde. The Haunted Forest is back and filled with ghoulish enemies. This year, Bungie added five chests to the end of the activity for five times the loot!

To open the chests, you are going to need some Cipher Decoders. Talk to Spider to get started and then they will drop from playing any of your favorite activities across the solar system – similar to Umbral Engrams. Braytech Werewolf and Horror Story will both be rewarded from these chests and each have new perk combinations to hunt for.

It goes double for Festival of the Lost: don’t forget to put on your mask. There are new masks available this year as well as some favorites from the past. Eva has a Masquerader Helmet which you can apply your masks to as ornaments before you head out in the world to start stockpiling candy. The mask mods for the Haunted Forest also return from last year’s event.

Before the event ends on November 3, you are going to want to complete three of the Triumphs for opening chests in the Haunted Forest. Once you finish off the required Triumphs you will be able to trade in some of your candy for a mummified Exotic Sparrow, ship, and Ghost.

Finishing the “Wrapped and Ready” Triumph required to get the Exotic Ghost also unlocks the ability to purchase the Restless Shell Ghost pin through Bungie Rewards.

Speaking of Bungie Rewards, there is also a terrifying new emblem available for free if you finish the initial quest during Festival of the Lost.

Here are a few quick notes that may answer some questions you have:

  • Minimum Power to enter the Haunted Forest is 750.
  • You can hold up to 25 Cipher Decoders before you need to go open some chests in the Haunted Forest.
  • There will be both earnable masks and masks available for Silver/Bright Dust.
    • Any Triumphs involving masks do not require masks from Eververse.
  • Bounties will return from last year and will once again offer Bright Dust.
  • All-new Eververse items will be available for both Silver and Bright Dust except for the “One-Inch Punch” finisher which will be available for Silver.
  • The toothbrush is still just a toothbrush.

Festival of the Lost 2020 is set to begin on October 6, and will conclude at the weekly reset on November 3. Players can view the updated Festival of the Lost Guide for information on event specific activities, rewards, and triumphs.

During the event, players may encounter the following issues:

  • Inspecting a Cipher Decoder will incorrectly display Masterworked versions of the Braytech Werewolf and Horror Story auto rifles as potential Haunted Forest Cache drops.
  • The Wrapped and Ready Festival of the Lost Triumph refers to the Restless Shell as the mummy Ghost, when it should be called the Festival of the Lost Ghost.
  • The lower half of the Warlock Blood Lineage Robes Universal Armor Ornament will experience a visual texture error at the launch of Beyond Light. This issue will be resolved in a patch soon after release.

Players who observe issues during the event should report to the #Help forum.

Event // Celebrate Those We’ve Lost

Eva Levante has returned as the herald of the Festival of the Lost. This holiday is a time for Guardians to indulge their sweet tooth, don irreverent masks, and celebrate the memories of those we have lost. The Pyramid ships loom, Europa awaits, and Darkness beckons. But for now, return to the Tower, grab some candy, and remind yourself what you’re fighting for.

Activities // Secrets in the Forest

The Haunted Forest is open once again, and this time, The Spider wants to bargain for your cooperation. Meet with him, line your pockets with Cipher Decoders, and then race the clock within the dark corridors of the Haunted Forest. Keep your wits about you and there may be more than one treasure chest waiting for you at the end.

Treats // Wrapped Rewards

A new Exotic Sparrow, ship, and Ghost are all wrapped up and ready for your collection. There are also new Triumphs to unlock, new masks to wear, and more chances to get a perfect roll with new perk possibilities on the Braytech Werewolf and Horror Story Auto Rifles.

Costumes // Festival Masks

Show your Festival of the Lost spirit by collecting a variety of new masks and returning favorites. Acquire a Masquerader Helmet from Eva and apply your mask ornaments to join the festivities.

Terrifying Triumphs

If you find yourself constructing a throne made of candy, there’s a chance you earned a Triumph that grants you the new Festival of the Lost emblem. Check by logging into your Bungie Rewards account and see how close you are to unlocking the new Restless Ghost Shell collectible pin too.

Eververse // Scary Stylish

Embody the spirit of the festival with a new line of spooky universal armor ornaments that will bring out your inner ghoul. Hop on your broomstick, make sure your Ghost equips their witch hat, and if your Ghastly Durance doesn’t scare your enemies to death, try using the new One-inch Punch Finisher.

Festival of the Lost is a limited-time live event in Destiny 2 where Guardians laugh in the face of death and wear masks as they fight back against the encroaching darkness. Festival of the Lost begins on October 6, 2020 and ends at the weekly reset on November 3, 2020.

Participation Requirements

While all players are invited to participate in Festival of the Lost, new players* must first meet the following requirements:

  • Escape the Cosmodrome to unlock the Tower.
  • Achieve 770 Power.

Once new players have met the above requirements, they can speak to Eva Levante in the Tower Courtyard to receive a quest . After this quest has been completed, players will be granted access to explore the Haunted Forest and can earn Festival of the Lost rewards.

*Characters created before the launch of New Light do not have to achieve 770 Power to receive the Festival of the Lost quest.

PLEASE NOTE! Players who are new to Destiny 2 should also review the Destiny 2: New Player Guide.

The Haunted Forest

“A darkened instance of the Infinite Forest on Mercury. Descend into its depths with a fireteam, and see how far you can get before it disintegrates.”

In order to launch into the Haunted Forest after it has been unlocked, players must select the Haunted Forest node in the Tower destination map. Before launching, players must choose between two versions of the Haunted Forest:

Haunted Forest – Minimum Recommended Power 750

  • This standard version of the Haunted Forest features matchmaking, and will pair players until a Fireteam of three has been assembled.
  • PlayStation Plus/Xbox Live Gold is required in order for console players to access this version of the Haunted Forest.

Firewalled Haunted Forest – Minimum Recommended Power 750

  • In this version of the Haunted Forest, matchmaking is disabled. Players may enter the Haunted Forest solo, or with a pre-made Fireteam, but no additional team members will be matchmade into this activity.

Additionally, players may launch directly into the matchmade Haunted Forest from the Tower Courtyard by interacting with the Haunted Forest mission totem next to Eva Levante.

Once players have entered the Haunted Forest, they will have 15 minutes to clear branches, defeat Terrors, and collect both Candy and Chocolate Strange Coins. Players may then turn them in to Eva Levante in the Tower Courtyard for Festival of the Lost rewards.

Cipher Decoders and Haunted Forest Caches

Alongside a completion rewards chest at the end of a Haunted Forest activity, players will also find five optional caches available to unlock. These caches can only be opened using Cipher Decoders, which can be acquired via random world drops and activity completions outside of the Haunted Forest.

Each cache requires one Cipher Decoder to open, and can contain legendary gear, random rolls of the Braytech Werewolf and Horror Story auto rifles, masks, and Festival of the Lost shaders. Up to five caches can be opened per Haunted Forest completion.

Rewards from Eva Levante

“No longer an outfitter for heroes of the Tower, Eva now devotes her time to making sure Guardians enjoy seasonal events.”

Once players unlock access to the Haunted Forest, they can purchase bounties, masks, and other Festival of the Lost rewards from Eva Levante. Masks and rewards may be purchased using Candy and Chocolate Strange Coins, which can be earned by defeating enemies and completing activities during Festival of the Lost while a mask is equipped.

PLEASE NOTE! Festival of the Lost Candy and Chocolate Strange Coins do not dismantle individually. In the event that players choose to dismantle these items, their entire stacks will be deleted.

Festival Bounties

During Festival of the Lost, Eva Levante offers Festival Bounties which can reward players with XP, Bright Dust, Glimmer, and Chocolate Strange Coins.

  • Weekly Bounty (2)
  • Daily Bounty (4)
  • Additional Bounties

During Festival of the Lost, Eva Levante offers 6 masks that players may purchase for Chocolate Strange Coins. Furthermore, masks earned during Festival of the Lost 2018 and 2019 can also be equipped by players who earned them. All masks must be equipped as ornaments on the Masquerader’s Helmet, which is offered by Eva Levante for 100 Glimmer.

During Festival of the Lost, Eva Levante offers players special rewards to show off the spirit of the season. The Masquerader’s Helmet, which is required to equip masks and Festival of the Lost mods, only contributes to players’ Power while Festival of the Lost is active.

For purchase costs and unlock requirements, please check with Eva Levante in the Tower Courtyard.

Festival of the Lost Mods

Once players have purchased the Masquerader’s Helmet from Eva Levante, they can equip masks as ornaments and apply Festival of the Lost armor mods. Festival of the Lost armor mods can only be applied to the Masquerader’s Helmet, and they are only active while in the Haunted Forest.
